Questions we get asked

How much does security fencing cost in Ireland?

Mesh fencing starts from €25 a metre supplied, and a 2.4 m palisade kit is €330 a 2.75 m section. Vehicle gates are €1,184–€3,990. The fitted price depends on the length, the ground, the corners and the gates, so it's priced after a look at the site.

How long does it take to put up?

Ordering often takes longer than fitting. Once the materials are on site, a straight run on good ground goes up quickly; rock, slopes and lots of corners take longer. The contractor gives you dates when they price it.

Is there a grant for fencing?

Not for homes or most businesses. If you're a club, school or farm already in a funding scheme, ask that scheme whether fencing qualifies before you start, because work done first can rule you out.

Do I need planning permission for palisade fencing at home?

Usually, yes. The planning exemption for walls and fences around a house covers capped walls, railings and wooden fences, but not a metal palisade or other security fence. Around a house, palisade needs permission at any height.
