Why there are no installed prices here

We looked for Irish fencing contractors or guides that publish a supply-and-fit price for palisade or mesh fencing and couldn't find one we could confirm at its source. Rather than estimate, we explain what drives the installed cost and let the contractor price the site.

What drives the installed cost

  • Length and corners. More bays, more posts, more holes. Each corner needs a corner post.
  • Height. Taller fences use longer posts, set deeper.
  • Ground. Soft ground digs fast. Rock, old foundations and tarmac slow it down. Bolt-down posts suit an existing slab.
  • Gates. A vehicle gate is a large item on its own: HERMEQ's start from €1,560.00 ex VAT (€1,918.80 incl.), and a 2.4 m × 6 m powder coated gate is €3,244.03 ex VAT (€3,990.16 incl.).
  • Finish. Powder coating costs more than galvanised.
  • Access. Room for a digger or post driver, a lorry for materials, and somewhere to store them.
  • Removal. Taking down and disposing of an old fence.
  • Labour and time. A long run in difficult ground is days of work for a crew.

Working out what you'll buy

For palisade, divide the length by 2.75 m to get the bays, round up, and add one post to finish the run and a corner post at each turn. Each Standard bay takes 17 pales and two rails. Most contractors buy at trade prices and price the job as a whole, so you won't see the parts list on the quote, but it helps you understand the numbers.

Comparing quotes

  • Same fence type, height, finish and pale or mesh spec
  • Same length, corners and gates
  • Posts concreted or bolted, and how deep
  • Removal of the old fence and making good
  • Supply and fit, with VAT stated
  • Warranty on the finish and the work

Where these figures come from

  • We re-read each supplier's page on 28 October 2026 and record only what it says.
  • HERMEQ shows prices ex and incl. VAT; we show both. Where a supplier doesn't state VAT, we say so.
  • We use Irish suppliers' euro prices only, never UK prices converted.
  • We don't estimate installed prices. None is published that we could confirm.

Questions people ask

How much does security fencing cost in Ireland?

Supply prices are published; installed prices aren't. HERMEQ lists palisade pales from €4.63 ex VAT (€5.69 incl.) and 1.8 m posts from €20.12 ex VAT (€24.75 incl.). Fenceit lists mesh fencing at €25 per metre, VAT not stated. The installed price depends on the ground, access, gates and length, so it's quoted after a site visit.

Do the prices include VAT?

HERMEQ lists prices ex VAT and incl. 23% VAT, and we show both. Wire and Fence Depot and Fenceit don't state VAT.

Why don't you show installed prices?

No Irish source we could confirm publishes one. Installed cost depends on ground, access, gates and length, so it's quoted after a site visit.

How many bays is my palisade fence?

Divide the length by 2.75 m and round up. Add one post to close the run and a corner post at each turn.

Is mesh cheaper than palisade?

On supply prices it often is. Fenceit lists mesh at €25 per metre. Palisade is a heavier fence with more parts per metre. Compare full quotes for your site.
